![]() These figures of speech enhance a reader’s understanding of concepts and comparisons, interpretations of symbols and themes, and enjoyment of language. Therefore, personification allows writers to convey meaning in a creative and poetic way. Overall, as a literary device, personification functions as a means of creating imagery and connections between the animate and inanimate for readers. Personification allows writers to attribute human characteristics to nonhuman things without turning those things into human-like characters, as is done with anthropomorphism. Therefore, while anthropomorphism is limited to animals and deities, personification can be more widely applied as a literary device by including inanimate objects and abstract ideas. Other such examples are Winnie the Pooh, Paddington Bear, and Thomas the Tank Engine. For example, Mickey Mouse is a character that illustrates anthropomorphism in that he wears clothes and talks like a human, though he is technically an animal. There are several examples of this literary device in popular culture and literature. In addition to gods, writers use anthropomorphism to create animals that display human traits or likenesses such as wearing clothes or speaking. This is reflected in Greek dramas in which gods would appear and involve themselves in human actions and relationships. As a literary device, anthropomorphism allows an animal or deity to behave as a human. ![]() Anthropomorphism is when human characteristics or qualities are applied to animals or deities, not inanimate objects or abstract ideas. However, there is a difference between these two literary devices. Kaori is later discharged and, as a punishment for not visiting her in the hospital, forces Kōsei to be Watari's "substitute" for a date the two had planned. Kōsei is initially hesitant, but his mother's pianist friend, Hiroko Seto, tells him that it would be a good chance to prove to his mother what a pianist he has become.ĭuring the concert, Kaori is unexpectedly hospitalized, so Kōsei plays the piece as a piano solo. For the gala, Kaori picks Love's Sorrow, a piece that Saki used to play as a lullaby for her son. He succeeds and while Kaori is disqualified, the organizers invited her to play at a gala concert. During the competition, Kōsei experiences a breakdown again, but Kaori encourages him to restart the recital, despite the fact that it will disqualify her. One of her competitions requires a pianist to accompany her, so Kaori forces Kōsei to come out of retirement and accompany her. She plays the violin in an unorthodox manner, refusing to follow the cues and instead creating her own flow that nevertheless impresses the audience. Kaori, as it turns out, is a bubbly children-loving violinist. Ten years later, in April, Kōsei is invited by his childhood friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryōta Watari to go on a double date with them and Kaori Miyazono, whom Tsubaki says is attracted to Watari. Since then, Kōsei quit playing piano in public. ![]() Indeed, Saki died the following day this caused Kōsei to experience a mental breakdown during a recital, making him unable to hear sounds from the piano. Q, Jules and Josh reunite with Kady ( Jade Tailor), who is enveloped in a mission of her own – save Penny ( Arjun Gupta) from an aggressive form of magical cancer. Our trio learned of an incident in a Manhattan hedge witch bar involving a bear. They knew Mayakovsky, everyone’s favorite drunk Russian uncle, had four magical batteries in his possession. Quentin, Julia and Josh set out to search for sources of magic. Cats were capable of sensing lampreys from a considerable distance, thus giving her enough time to put some miles between her and her pursuer. Alice was instructed to purchase a cat to act as an alarm. She did some naughty things as a niffin, one of which was murder the lamprey’s entire family. Meanwhile, Alice ( Olivia Taylor Dudley) discovered that a creature known as the lamprey was hellbent on slaughtering her. Our trio departed After Island, key in hand, and left Father Roe to the mercy of a horde of angry villagers. Eliot used the golden key to demolish the creature, and explained to the villagers that Father Roe’s “illusion magic” was a tactic to make them rely on him. However, we learned that Father Roe was conjuring the Shadow Bat (Fray’s words). The folks on After Island were plagued with a monster, one who would attack villagers in its path. Roe was adorned with a golden key round his neck. They are greeted by a man named Father Roe. Plot twist! Fen is overjoyed, and vowed to join Eliot and Fray for a family vacation. So Fray, a human representative of the fairy realm, was instructed to accompany Eliot on the Muntjac. The Fairy Queen didn’t trust Eliot to travel alone without someone from the fairy realm accompanying him. Thus, Eliot and Margo utilized that as a cover for their real mission – to collect the first golden key. Apparently, said island hadn’t paid their share of taxes for 46 years. Time to get epic, folks!Įliot embarked on his lavish new vessel, The Muntjac, for After Island. Later, Quentin sent multiple bunnies back to Fillory detailing their latest mission – a quest to obtain seven golden keys to unlock the backdoor to magic. However, they resorted to sending a bunny to Q on Earth beseeching him for assistance. Margo tried everything to deter the fairies, to send them back to their realm where they belonged. Fen ( Brittany Curran) was still suffering from the loss of her child, and sported fancy new wooden toes. The Fairy Queen ( Candis Cayne) had constant surveillance on our favorite ruling couple. Meanwhile, Eliot ( Hale Appleman) and Margo ( Summer Bishil) were adjusting to life in Fillory with the fairies breathing down their necks. Quentin noticed that Chapter 1 was available, but the remainder of the pages were blank. Perhaps this was their key (pun intended) to saving magic for the masses. The following day, Julia set out on a library exploration and stumbled upon a book titled The Tales of the Seven Keys. No author was listed, but Julia could sense a heaping helping of magic emanating from said book. Now, Bacchus only revealed this information after Q and Jules proved they were party material. Next, Bacchus regaled them with the tale of Prometheus, and a potential “backdoor” to magic. Our trio managed to gain access to one of Bacchus’ opulent parties. That’s when they learned of Bacchus, the god of revelry and debauchery. Quentin, Julia and Josh ( Trevor Einhorn) delved into researching minor gods with the hopes that one of them had access to the old gods. Well, after Julia ( Stella Maeve) showed Quentin ( Jason Ralph) her minuscule “spark,” our heroes set out on a journey to revive magic for all humanity. You know, the one who literally switched off magic. Of course, we all recall that creepy magical janitor from the Season 2 finale. Discrimination based on sexual orientation is just as common in western civilization as discrimination based on racial difference. With a title like that it’s hard to imagine Thugger won’t swing for the fences yet.He didn’t say past struggles. Young Thug is still a can’t miss rapper and his debut album, the bewilderingly titled Hy!£UN35, is slated for August. The lows aren’t very low but the highs aren’t very high. It’s Young Thug’s darkest release, which is a damn shame as nobody does “top of the mountain puffing on clouds” quite like Thugger, and, all told, Barter 6 feels like a minor release. For another, Barter 6 is safe, sticking to a comfortable blueprint without pushing hard for anything new. The face smashing intensity of Bloody Jay or Rich Homie Quan’s one-in-a-million croak are sorely missed. For one, Young Thug’s choice of guests is still highly suspect with total no-names (Young Dolph? Yak Gotti? Duke?) contributing little to nothing of interest. ![]() The Barter 6 missteps in two critical areas. Lyrically, there’s a few flashes of clever self awareness (“Everytime I dress myself I go mother***ing viral”) and throws shots at Lil’ Wayne (“Pussy boy I'll leave you dead and call it dead-ication”) but it’s mostly a Young Thuggish tangle of lifestyle raps. Conversely, Young Thug snaps into urgent attention for closer “Just Might Be”, reeling off a dazzling triple time chorus that’s just as catchy. On “Check” he lazily lets his voice rise ever so slightly for the hook (“Got me a check I got a cheeck, yeeauh”) that you’ll be hopelessly reciting to your confused coworkers. He’s a flowsmith, eagerly bounding down new avenues to throw his words around, and lapsing into wild melodies that stick in the brain. “Dream” is what Burial’s debut album might sound like if he grew up in Atlanta instead of London while “Just Might Be”’s synthetic ocean choir is like prime Clams Casino or Friendzone.īut Young Thug is still the star of the show. London on da Track produced “Check” is awash in the lost souls of the stunted-on manifesting as haunted synths. Opener “Constantly Hating” lets its strings dance somewhere in the background while hi-hats and snare tick away in the foreground. Its heady blend melodic elements tiptoeing around thundering bass is the inverse of the maximal Fruity Loops trap beats that have been recently subsumed into EDM. In fact, the production, which bears some resemblance to Cash Out’s recent strain of minimal kitchen bangers, is so interesting it might make Barter 6 Young Thug’s first headphone album. In exchange for this lack of instant highs, Barter 6 is Young Thug’s most cohesive work, a fleet 13 tracks in 50 minutes with dark, trickling production. An end to end listen uncovers nothing as immediate as the aforementioned tracks. “Angry Sex”, “2 Cups Stuffed”, “Pikachu”, and “Danny Glover” practically lunged from their respective full lengths the same way “Stoner” and “Lifestyle” did from radio playlists. Previous Young Thug required no effort to find their highlights. A skirt wearing ATLian who openly refers to other men as “bae” that raps like Roger Rabbit with a double cup of lean and molly in his system who thinks you could take your “real rap” and shove it. If Kendrick Lamar represents one side of the spectrum, a straight A student of rap music history who receives universal respect and accolades, than Young Thug sits at the other end. ![]() No rap artist of the moment is more likely to inspire long winded comment section venom than Young Thug and, no coincidence, he’s the most exciting rapper out. From Drake to Nicki Minaj to Chief Keef to the Migos, these artists are smacked down today only to end up reshaping rap in their own image tomorrow. The ones being dragged through the mud for refusing to fall in line behind rap’s most superficial tenants - lyrical complexity, hypermasculinity, respect for elders - are usually the ones making the most exciting music out. Review Summary: Young Thug plays it safe.įinding rap music’s greatest innovators has long been a case of finding its most vocally hated. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, it should be a good film to watch with young kids, just cover their eyes at the sex scenes - nah, just kidding. ![]() In truth, I had no idea what the movie was, I just liked the title, so not much in the way of expecting, but considering it is a Chinese animation film, it was actually quite good and I enjoyed it. I mean, if a little kid can do all that, what the hell was everybody else doing?īottom line: I rate it as 'unexpectedly good'. Also the unfathomable 'level up' at the end, so Asian in nature, that made the entire story feel kind of stupid. There were some points that I didn't like, the reveal of the nature of the two brothers and the scheming dark elf that everybody seems to know who she is, but was never explained in the film. The animation was nice, the main character a bit annoying, but fun, the young romance thing interesting. In fact, the only thing that I think could bother people is that it is basically aimed at children and (very) young adults. I haven't played Dragon Nest - which BTW is a MMORPG - but I liked the characters and the lighthearted mood of the film. Dragon Nest: Warriors Dawn (2014) G (US) Fantasy, Animation 1h 28m User Score. compelling story telling for someone that is unfamiliar with the lore, only thing it suffers from is the introduction of too many (main?) characters right away, that might be because there is already an established lore for them I don't know but thankfully the narrative doesn't focus to much on previous events just that "they know of each other". while the story might not be the most original, if you have any interest in sword fights and combat magic, great animation and a movie with possibly perfect pacing/highs and lows this is certainly worth a watch. for someone that doesn't know the lore this movie was a great watch, though the ensemble of 'heroes' was a little off 'strictly story wise, though that is understandable by it being based on the lore of a game, essentially character classes that are different from one another having prejudices about each other yet work together to achieve a common goal for the greater good. (no specific spoilers mentioned but if you want to go in completely without any comments about the storytelling then don't read, though you should definitely watch the movie if you are unsure, you wont regret it unless you have no interest at all in magic and fantasy world sword fights, at the very least it is a decent story) apparently inspired by a game called dragons nest that I know nothing about. ![]() |
